I attended a conference recently; Mayo Clinic Social Media in Healthcare in OZ. Actually, not only attended, also had 2 wee speaking spots on the program !!

Last year I was fortunate enough to attend the inaugural forum in Australia and this year it was in Melbourne. Social Media in Healthcare is something I am passionate about.
The world is so connected now folks and in healthcare, I think this opens up enormous opportunity. Sadly there is still a lot of anxiety about this and people are spooked about what “might happen’. I believe it is already happening and being ignorant about it - well, it isn’t helping anyone.
As I have often said to people ….. “if you are not part of the solution, you forfeit the right to whinge’.
Even at my current place of work, not everyone likes the approach to Social Media that I have led. Some folk think it is self-promoting, egotistical and self-indulgent. Maybe it is!
Nevertheless, if my support of Social Media in Healthcare helps one person with a chronic disease live life a little more comfortably and connected; one woman to have access to safe reproductive care; if one child is cared for in a way that enables them to reach their life potential, happily; if another person can a have a cancer detected early and go on to run a marathon; if someone can have a death that gives them their deserved dignity and respect; and if I can be a health professional that respects the code of ethics of my chosen profession by being part of social media ……. You know what? I am here for the haul.
