Holidays .... taking time out  2017#9 - Food.2

High on a hill was a ..... no, it was not a goat herd and not a song from the movie the Sound of Music - it is the image I am trying to create to allow you to imagine a couple of the most gorgeous places I have visited. This holiday appears to have created some themes and one that is emerging, is eating from establishments that are high on hills with spectacular, breathtakingly spectacular, vistas.

Caffe Positano on the left side of the hill of Positano .... or on the right side, depending on your perspective .... was a super fab seafood place where we sat in the edge of the balcony one evening and watched the town lights of Positano come to life. Eating a lot of frutti di mare and I had a wonderfully delicious pasta with lobster. YUM. Only surpassed by incredible angel hair pasta with lobster at Max Ristorante a few nights later.  The view ...... what do you think ?

While in Lucca we were very fortunate to be invited to eat with relatives for many of our meals. Fabulous home cooking and being served the type of things we imagine Italians eat everyday at home. Primi (starters) of proscuitto, mozzarella and  other goodies. Pastas of all kinds - especially funghi sauces - yum. Secondi (main) of meat, fish, veggies and salads. Dolce - of course !!

However, we also knew that we were close to the Chianti wine region so a day trip was planned and the son of my cousin Barbara, Andrea, was our guide for the day. We visited a private vineyard, San Gimignano and then onto Certaldo. After a ride to the old part of town in Certraldo, on the funicolare, we wandered around a small and picturesque village that is actually contained within the walls of an old castle.

Dinner at a restaurant overlooking the surrounding valley and vineyard was very idyllic indeed. At Ristorante L’Antica Fonte I tasted one of the best ravioli I have ever eaten.

Do you think this is pretty ?

While in Milan, I wasn't expecting a day trip to Como but a spontaneous thought from TezzaEd suggested we jump on the train. I am not so sure it was a random idea and now suspect that he had actually planned a surprise. After another ride and a stroll around the town we were on a ferry heading to Cernobbio. A taxi ride to a ristorante called Il Gatto Nero, a superb lunch and very very delicious bottle of Chardonnay and we sat for several hours and took in this perspective of Lake Como.

Do you think it is picturesque?
