The Circle of Life continues …. 2017 will be a nice year for babies

With total commitment and focus I have searched the world over to find something that is as wondrous, perfect and smells as delicious as a new born baby. I can tell you … there is nothing!

I am also here to tell you that there is only one perfect, beautiful baby …. And every mother has it.

The world has two kinds of people - Baby people and those who are not. I am definitely one of the former.  I. LOVE. NEWBORNS. The gift of life and that precious moment of when you first meet a new baby,  has created some of my most treasured life memories.

Ticking off one of my bucket list items saw me achieve my registration as a Celebrant a while ago. Since then, some very special events have offered me the thrill of being invited to be the Celebrant at some very special weddings.

You can check out my slowly developing celebrant Facebook page here … https://www.facebook.com/debcerasacelebrant311/
As the birds and bees tell us, often after people fall in love and make life commitments to each other, babies are considered.
One of “my” babies and one of “my” couples have now shared the news of their anticipated arrival in the New Year.

When my niece was a toddler I lived with her family for a while. She was one of the cutest babies ever…. She had such a smiley disposition and cuddly little soul. I loved her all the way to the moon and back through the universe.  As she grew up she eventually studied to become a nurse – YEP very proud Aunt moment, right there!!  What a thrill when her fiancé and her asked me to be their celebrant.

The next exciting chapter is being written as we all became aware of the beautiful baby bump that is growing and making its presence felt and known.  You got it … another very proud Aunt moment.

Excited, proud, filled with love and hope, which means I can barely contain my excitement – however,  I am so not telling you what my prediction is!  Boy or girl it will be loved and treasured and another gorgeous great niece or nephew for me to love along with Levi, Imogen and Charlee.

*Arrhhh* … can’t you just hear the sigh of love and happy I feel?

What sort of boss am I …. ?

Recently I was reflecting on my professional life and an extension of that thinking has led me to consider some of the real day to day things that occur. This led to me to ask myself “what type of a “boss” am I”?

Leadership, CEO, Executive role or how ever so termed, still comes down to the practical situation that I am the boss and the buck stops with me.

Over the years I have often said that I aspire to be the boss that I always wanted to have.  I am realistic enough to know that my style, personality and energy is certainly not agreeable to everybody, but most people and I, seem to get along OK.  In fact, I have definitely had more people say they like working with me, than not.

Mums have had babes at side to enable easy feeding, kids hanging around after school when necessary, pets come to work where possible (big hit in an aged care residence!), partners call in when life/at home matters are important ……. All these things I am generally very accepting of as the boss. Another one of my “DC clichés” is that ‘family and health always come first’.  99% of the time when I have lived that adage and supported people at work, they have come back appreciative and I believe it demonstrates caring for them. KPI’s are achieved, successes occur and positive feedback is received.  There are times I need to make the tough decisions and I am always prepared to do so. I always own the responsibility of the consequences of the decisions I make. I know I can be tough – but I work real hard to be fair.

My recalling of all this has been stimulated by an interesting exchange with a work colleague recently. Sometimes the rules and guidelines are just not needed.  During a conversation about some challenges that were occurring, our dialogue detailed numerous possible outcomes. None of which we could predict without a crystal ball. After approximately 45 minutes the conversation appeared to be taking a natural conclusion and I asked “what can I do to assist you?” After a few moments of consideration the response I received was “A hug would be good!”

And it was. A boss moment like no other!
